Payton Kay | The First Year

This is Payton Kay, one of my dearest friend’s little girl. I asked her to write a little bit about how the first year with Payton has been! So, the paragraphs below are by her! This blog is from the day P was born to the family photos I recently took of them in December! It’s so much fun being able to document her growing!

“Birth - After two days of being hospitalized for observation, Payton was forced out of her cozy home three weeks early because I developed preeclampsia. She was born on March 22nd and weighed a whopping 5 pounds and 3 ounces. The labor went smoothly and the delivery was the easiest part of the entire journey. People think I’m crazy when I say that, but you push out a five pound baby and you’ll feel the same way! She was the tiniest, sleepiest little creature I’d ever met. The doctor warned us she might be a little cranky at first since she wasn’t ready to come on her own, but much to our surprise, she hardly ever cried...unless she was naked 😂

Newborn - So many moms describe having a baby as this new magical adventure and say they’ve never felt so much love in their entire lives. I, on the other hand, had a more realistic view on bringing a baby home. I had a stranger in my house. I knew I loved her because I cared so much about doing what was best for her, but it felt strange to love someone I had basically just met and that couldn’t express their love back. As the days went on and life with a baby become more normal, I realized I did love my baby the way all moms talk about. It just felt a lot different at first than I expected.

Baptism- Not long before P’s baptism, we found out we were moving to North Dakota, something I said I would never do, so most of this time with Payton was kind of a blur. Even though I don’t remember all the details, I do know that Payton was, and still is, extremely happy and smiley. Something I say she gets from her dad because as my mom always reminds me, it’s strange that I of all people have such a good tempered baby. She also has always loved to sleep and gets a little cranky when that doesn’t happen, something she gets from me 😉

Recent- Even though life is more hectic now and Payton is becoming more work as she’s been getting more mobile, this has by far been the most fun age yet. It feels like she’s learning something new every day and is constantly making us cry from laughter. She’s already a little jokester and she’s only 9 months old! It’s been so fun watching her personality come to life and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her 💕 “
